The Cool Club is for children in P3 – P7 of Primary School. It meets from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays during school term time.
There are currently 12 members, who pay 50p per week, towards running costs, including juice and biscuits. There are 3 leaders: Isabelle McClure, Maureen Pattison and Ian Watt.
The programme of activities may include ball games, badminton, indoor hockey, soft football, rounders, running games, and team games, and ‘quiet time’ during which there will be some religious input, and preparation for occasional Services in Church.
Through World Vision, the Cool Club sponsors a child; currently a boy of 9, Bakul Peter Toppo, in a village in Bangladesh. The family and village also benefit. This costs £22.80 per month, and the existing private donations towards the sponsorship are very much appreciated.
In November, we take part in the Christingle service, which is held in a different Church each year.
At Christmas, we took part, along with the Sunday Club, in the Nativity Service.
A Coffee Morning is always held in February. This is thoroughly enjoyed by those who help as well as those who attend. In 2014, a total of £301 was raised, and this was sent, through World Vision, to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
On Mothering Sunday, we distribute daffodils to the ladies in the congregation, and on Palm Sunday, we distribute palm crosses to everyone in Church. These are bought from African Palms, a charity working in Masasi in Tanzania, where the palm crosses are made, to supplement the low income in the area. The retiring offering is sent to African Palms.
After Easter, if the weather is suitable, we sometimes play rounders on the Green opposite the Church, or investigate the beach.
The session finishes at the end of June with a party or a barbecue, and resumes on the first Friday in September.
Sunday Fun Club
The Sunday Fun Club is Lamlash Church’s Sunday school and is run by volunteers from the congregation in the church hall adjacent to the church. There are lots of games to play, stories, music and all sorts of fun activities for children of any age.
