Good morning and welcome to Worship. May we all know God’s blessing as we worship together. If you are a visitor, please take our good wishes back to your own congregation on your return home.
Today is Challenge Poverty Sunday. We are invited to recognize local and world-wide poverty and to respond in Christ’s Name as we seek to serve Him through serving others.
Thank you for all the lovely cards, presents and good wishes for my special birthday. Graeme and I had a wonderful holiday in Rhodes and then there was a surprise party on Wednesday which left me speechless ( a very rare occurrence!) – family and friends from so many stages of my life.
Kirk Session meets on 17 October at 2 pm in the church hall.
BLYTHESWOOD CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL· The closing date for boxes or donations is today.
Foodshare: Our registration as a distribution point for the Co-op Foodshare has now been approved by North Ayrshire Council and we have been partnered with Lamlash Co-op. This will make it easier for us to collect the food and bring it to the church. This will be fresh food, including fruit and vegetable that is surplus or running out of date and would be binned. Lily is looking for volunteers to help collect the food in the mornings and take it to the church where it will be available to anyone who needs it. It is different from the Foodbank in that it will be fresh food and will be available daily. If we find that we are left with anything, this can be cooked and frozen and could go in the freezer at the Foodbank in Brodick Church.
This is a big commitment and the more people volunteering to help, the easier it will be. Some volunteers may only have time to collect the food and others may be available to help cook and freeze when required, while others deliver this to Brodick Church. There will be no need to wait at the church each day as we will operate on the same basis as the Foodbank with the church being open for people in need to come along and help themselves. This helps preserve peoples’ anonymity and dignity. If you think you could help in any way, please speak to Lily for more information.
The church prayer group will not meet this week. The purpose of this group is to pray for the church and all our work. Without prayer as a foundation, we will be building on sand and that is not recommended! Please watch this space for details of the next meeting!
Please note that the Faith Development Group resumes 2pm Thursday 23rd October at 68 Murray Crescent. We are grateful to Pearl for opening her home for this. Please come along and join us as we explore God’s Word together. In a changing world, it is important that we continually try to work out how what we do as Christians reflects what we learn of God’s love.
