Romans 13:8-16

September 4, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday service on 4 September 2011

Passage Romans 13:8-16:

8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Exodus 12:1-14

September 4, 2011 by Cams

Read at Sunday service on 4 September 2011

Passage Exodus 12:1-14:

Exodus 12

1And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,

2This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

3Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

4And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

5Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

6And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

7And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

8And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

9Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.

10And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

11And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.

12For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

13And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

14And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

John 20:19-23

June 28, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday Service on 12 June 2011

Passage John 20:19-23:

19Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.

21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Acts 2:1-6 and 12

June 28, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday service on 12 June 2011

Acts 2

1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

[…]

12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

John 17:1-11

June 7, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday service on 5 May 2011

Passage John 17:1-11:

John 17

1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

1 Peter 4:12-14 / 5:6-11

June 7, 2011 by Cams

Read at Sunday service on 5 June 2011

Passage 1 Peter 4:12-14:

12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

Passage 1 Peter 5:6-11:

6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

John 14: v15-21

May 29, 2011 by Cams

From Sunday service, 29 May

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15(A) “If you love me, you will(B) keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another(C) Helper,[a] to be with you forever, 17even(D) the Spirit of truth,(E) whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and(F) will be in you.

18“I will not leave you as orphans;(G) I will come to you. 19(H) Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but(I) you will see me.(J) Because I live, you also will live. 20(K)In that day you will know that(L) I am in my Father, and(M) you in me, and(N) I in you. 21(O)Whoever has my commandments and(P) keeps them, he it is who loves me. And(Q) he who loves me(R) will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and(S) manifest myself to him.”

John 14:1-14

May 22, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday service on 22 May 2011

1(A) “Let not your hearts be troubled.(B) Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. 2In(C) my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that(D) I go to prepare a place for you?[b] 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you(E) to myself, that(F) where I am you may be also. 4And you know the way to where I am going.”[c] 5(G) Thomas said to him, “Lord,(H) we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am(I) the way, and(J) the truth, and(K) the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7(L) If you had known me, you would have(M) known my Father also.[d] From now on you do know him and(N) have seen him.”

8(O) Philip said to him, “Lord,(P) show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip?(Q) Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that(R) I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you(S) I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.11Believe me that(T) I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else(U) believe on account of the works themselves.

12“Truly, truly, I say to you,(V) whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I(W) am going to the Father. 13(X)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that(Y) the Father may be glorified in the Son.14(Z) If you ask me[e] anything in my name, I will do it.

1 Peter 2:2-10

May 22, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday service on 22 May 2011

2(A) Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual(B) milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3if indeed you have(C) tasted that the Lord is good.

4As you come to him, a living stone(D) rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5(E) you yourselves like living stones are being built up as(F) a spiritual house, to be(G) a holy priesthood,(H) to offer spiritual sacrifices(I) acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6For it stands in Scripture:

(J) “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
(K) and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

7So the honor is for you who(L) believe, but for those who(M) do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”[a]

8and

(N) “A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word,(O) as they were destined to do.

9But you are(P) a chosen race,(Q) a royal(R) priesthood,(S) a holy nation,(T) a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you(U) out of darkness into(V) his marvelous light. 10(W) Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

John 10:1-10

May 22, 2011 by Cams

Read at the Sunday Service on 15 May 2011

1“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5(A) A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6This figure of speech Jesus(B) used with them, but they(C) did not understand what he was saying to them.

7So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you,(D) I am the door of the sheep.8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me,(E) he will be saved and will go in and out and(F) find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and(G) kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
